Edmund Wheeler and his son Edmund Richard Wheeler opened a photographic studio in Colombo Street (between Cashel and Hereford Streets facing the Triangle in High Street) on the 18th January 1864. Soon after opening the building was destroyed by fire. The building was rebuilt on the same location. Edmund Wheeler died in 1877 but Edmund Richard continued on with the business. In early 1880 E Wheeler and Son relocated to the Cathedral Square (in the North-West Quadrant). The firm went bankrupt in 1914 in large part due to the emerging popularity of postcards. Edmund Richard Wheeler died on the 16th of January 1933.
