Hans von Aachen
German, 1552–1615
Painter who worked in the Mannerist style that was in vogue in Northern European courts. He was the official portraitist to Emperor Rudolf II of Prague. His paintings feature elegant, elongated figures and erotic nudes. Engravings after his work helped to make him influential.
